  • How long has Crystal been a licensed Cosmetologist and working with hair loss clients?

Crystal Gutierrez, owner of Lucent Crystal Beauty has been a licensed cosmetologist for almost 14 years. She specialized in glam bridal and event styling for most of her career . She is known by her clients and around Austin as Glam Fairy Crystal. A name affectionally given to her by her clients and friends. Her interest in hair loss grew more and more after seeing the amount of clients experiencing hair loss growing rapidly. In 2020 during the “GREAT PAUSE”, Crystal found herself worried and lost. After a couple of weeks of a never ending pity party for one, she decided to use this new found sense of time wisely and educate herself in what she never had time for before… hair loss aka Trichology. After finding a mentor, she worked under her for a full year, obtaining an enormous amount of education in a short period of time. She worked with different types of alternative hair systems. She trained in long hair bonding and dabbled in the study of trichology. Crystal has worked with established leaders in the hair loss industry including Great Lengths, HairUWear, EZIHairpro, HairDreams, Jon Renau and Cesare Ragazzi. She also attended the 2021 American Hair Loss Council Annual conference in San Diego with her former mentor, where she networked, attended classes and further confirmed this is exactly where she belonged. Since leaving her mentor’s salon in 2021, Crystal, has focused on earning multiple certifications to provide different forms of cosmetic hair loss solutions, including extension, extension toppers, SMP, Toppers and wigs and is not stopping there. Crystal is eager to continue learning and is currently enrolled in a two year trichology program with World of Trichology Society. Now that her non-compete contract has ended, she is ready to apply all she has learned and is ready to continue growing through this journey along with her clients.

  • The story behind the name Lucent Crystal Beauty

When Crystal first found out her original name wasn’t going to work out she was heart broken. She held on to her dream salon name for over 3 years while she worked hard to make her dreams come true. When it came down to deciding a new name she knew she couldn’t stick to anything close to the original plan. When asking her friends and family for suggestions her only rule she had was, “I don’t want my name in it”. Every suggestion given had Crystal in the name despite her cringing every time she heard her name. One night before bed the word “Lucent” crossed her mind and as she googled the meaning she instantly knew her new name. That night Lucent Crystal Beauty was born.

Lucent is defined in the oxford dictionary as “glowing with or giving off light”. The literary word lucent essentially means "luminous" or "radiant," glowing with a soft, bright light. Although Crystal is the owner’s name it really stands for an actual Crystal. Crystals are known for hollistic healing. Beauty is described as “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit”.

Although not the original plan Crystal instantly fell in love with her new name. you see Crystal has always been told by her clients and friends she has a tendency of glowing brightly. Despite the trials and tribulations life presents her she always has a way to look at the positive and glow even bright. But the truth is Crystal shines bright because of her biggest supporters. The holistic healing of crystals ties in Crystal’s new found passion of Trichology. A good Trichologist takes a holistic approach when focusing on the health of your hair and scalp. Beauty is pretty straight forward but Crystal also believe beauty is preceptive. Her biggest mission is to redefine beauty standard and encourage everyone to love themselves with or without glam.

Lucent Crystal Beauty isn’t just a name. It’s our mission to radiate healthy Beauty. .

“There is no limit to how radiant you can be”

  • Is the hair ethically sourced?

There is an unscrupulous side to this trade that preys on the poor and disadvantaged around the world and peddles mixed fiber of unknown origins that has been chemically treated. Human Hair, because of its value, can be shaved involuntarily which does not qualify as ‘ethically sourced’. Large corporations like HairuWear ( Raquel Welch, Great lengths) EZIHair Pro and Jon Renau invest heavily in establishing ethical sourcing practices that ensure the best quality fiber with an established chain of custody. Great Lengths and HairuWear are a B Corp certified. B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.

The company's name, Great Lengths, is a clever pun which references both the idea of making that extra effort, always going above and beyond, as well as conveying the image of their trademark long, sinuous strands of hair.

  • How do I know if I need a topper or a wig?

Honestly, there isn't a "right" answer—many people can wear and look great in both wigs and hair toppers! In many instances, it comes down to personal preference and it may even be dependent on the occasion or weather as well.
